SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURE DETERMlNATION OF Cu_{0.5}NbS_{2}

Cu$_{0.5}$NbS$_{2}$ have been prepared by vapour transport method with iodine as the transport agent. Characterization of this material by X -ray study was performed and the structure was refined. This compound crystallizes in hexagonal system, space group P6a/mmc with a = 3.3455(8)Å and c = 13.016 (6)Å, Z=2.

The structure is based on NbS$_{2}$ slabs with Cu in between. This study confirms the structural assumptions of KOERTS.
