(MetPPh3)[Co(bdt)2] (Fig.1), (bdt = benzene-1,2-dithiolate, MetPPh3+ = methyltriphenylphosphonium) was synthesized according following procedure: Benzene-1,2-dithiolate was combined with a solution of potassium metal in methanol. A solution of NiCl2.6H2O in methanol was added, resulting in a dark blue color. After that a solution of (MetPPh3)Br was added and the mixture was allowed to stir for 3 hour. The blue-black precipitate was filtered, washed and dried. Recrystallization from hot acetone produced blue-black needles. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c (a = 32.550(7) Ĺ, b = 19.621(4) Ĺ, c = 17.908(4) Ĺ, b = 95.14(3)°, V = 11391(4) Ĺ3, Z = 16). The complex was characterized by common physico-chemical methods (elemental analyses, IR and UV-VIS spectroscopy, magnetochemical measurements). The value of magnetic moment (3.23 BM, practically independent on temperature) indicates the spin triplet ground state and two unpaired electrons [1, 2]. X-ray structure analysis confirms the slightly distorted square coordination around the central atom.
