In this work we studied the completeness of the direct martensite transformation in the alloy Fe-Ni, which is austenite at room temperature, after laser treatment (LT) of starting samples in the regime of melting- off the surface. Martensite transformation was carried out by dipping of the samples into liquid nitrogen. Laser treatment was carried out by ruby pulse laser ($\lambda$=0,6943nm). As to find out, whether the stresses, which are brought about by LT, influence the intensity of martensite transformation before dipping the samples already subjected to LT, were subjected to low temperature tempering drawing. The amount of martensite was determined by X-ray method.

It was found out that LT led to decreasing of intensity of direct martensite transformation. It was caused by a number of factors, which led to austenite stabilization. These are: the increase of density of crystal- line structure defects, refining of austenite grains, mechanical stresses, arising as a result of high heating rates at LT. Low-temperature tempering drawing led to some increase of martensite volume fraction. This is because of relaxation of mechanical stresses, and also because of the decrease of presence of defects in the structure.
