X-Ray Group 1995

The research field of the X-ray laboratory is both the basic and the applied crystallography of thin films, multilayers, cermets, superconductors, intercalates, clay minerals, solution of structures of single crystals or powder samples and investigation of diffusion processes.

Among the new software packages used in our laboratory is the updated powder diffraction database PDF2 on CD ROM, new versions of the Rietveld program and several Windows programs making work easier.

In the field of crystallographic teaching our group is responsible for the basic lecture "Structure of Matter and Diffraction of Radiation" (3/2), for a course of special practical excercises in X-ray diffraction (0/3) and for a seminar on structure analysis (0/2). The practical excercises have been substantially modernized by introduction of computer programs for data analysis and by changes from technical to more basic-research oriented excercises. We also cover crystallographic teaching for students of biophysics, chemical physics, electronics and vacuum physics and physics of polymers. Facultative lectures "Structure of thin films and surfaces", "X-ray diffraction study of real structure of materials", "Methods of crystal structure solution", "Introduction to solid state physics" and "Review of modern analytical methods" are offered to all students of our faculty.
