Visas:

Czech Republic has an agreement about free movement of people with most of countries and all you need for travel is a valid passport. However, visitors from some countries need visa. If in doubts, please, check the Czech Embassy or Consulate in your country in sufficient advance of your trip. If some troubles appear, please, don’t hesitate to contact conference secretariat immediately.

Insurance

The organizers of ECM-18 cannot take any responsibility for accidents, sickness, theft and property damage. Participants are encouraged to obtain travel insurance in their home country prior to departure.

Climate and Clothing

Weather in summer cannot be well predicted in Prague. Rains are possible and umbrella or light jacket may be useful. However, often warm (25o-30oC ) and sunny weather can be expected in the middle of August.

Currency

Local currency is Czech crown (denoted as Kč or CZK). The exchange rate is approximately 1 USD ~ 36 Kc, 1 DEM ~ 20 Kc (spring 1998).

Excursions

Trips are organized to several gothic, baroque and renaissance castles, to traditional breweries Urquell and Gambrinus in Pilzen from where the true “Pilzen bier” got its name and to brewery Budweiser in South Bohemia (form where the world-known trade mark BUD originates). Vinegary has no ancient tradition in Bohemia (the first written documents are from 14th century), however, those who prefer wines can taste and classify more then 30 sorts during the wine parties.

Lunches, Dinners

Lunches will be available at the Conference site in Student Dining Room. Tickets can be purchased at the registration desk. Number site.will be referred to at the reception desk and at the conference Web site.of restaurants close to the Conference.

Travelling by car

Preferred routes to Prague are Nurnberg-Plzen-Praha or Dresden-Chomutov-Praha or Linz-České Budejovice-Praha or Brno-Praha. All sorts of petrol are widely available. Gas is available at some places only. Price for one liter of petrol is 21-27 Kc, 19-22 Kc for diesel. Maximum speed 130 km/h highway, 90 km/h other roads, 50 km/h in urban areas. Special label for 800 Kc is required at highways (sticked on the front window). Take in mind that any amount of alcohol detected at driver is subject of severe penalties. There is enough of free parking place at the conference venue.
