The Microsymposium on Mineralogical Crystallography (B1) started with the main lecture by R. Allmann (Marburg, Germany) dealing with structures of minerals contained in the Inorganic Structure Database. The speaker informed about the results of his checking and improving this subset, mentioning also its various shortcomings of which the user should be aware. G. Ferraris (Torino, Italy) reported about the p-V-T equation of state of phengite-3T from synchrotron powder diffraction - a welcome contribution for understanding the thermodynamics od polytypic structures. The deviations from ideal symmetry was treated in the next two talks by J. Hybler (Prague, Czech Republic) - deviations from the ideal OD groupoid symmetry in wollastonite-like structures, and by O. Frank-Kamenetskaya (St. Petersburg, Russia) - deviations from the ideal space-group symmetry in some alums, garnets and members of the analcime-pollucite system. D. Janeba (Prague, Czech Republic) showed how molecular modelling can help to determine the position and orientation of guest species intercalating clay minerals. Finally, D. Gubareva (Novosibirsk, Russia) demonstrated that the water state in various vein quartz samples as revealed and characterized mainly be TEM and IRS, can be indicative of their ore-bearing (e.g. Au) capacity.
